My name is Mrs. Cassady and I am thrilled to be a part of second grade team at Irwin Academic Center again this year. This is my 7th year teaching, and my second year teaching second grade! I taught four years in 3rd grade at the Paideia Academy at Oakhurst and one year in fourth grade at Charlotte Country Day before starting at IAC last fall.
I am a native Charlottean. I am a 2007 graduate of Elon University where I majored in Elementary Education. I am also a graduate Queens University and their Masters of Education program. I graduated with a Masters of Education with a concentration in Reading (K-12). I currently working towards earning my AIG (TD) certification this fall. I look forward to completing this in August 2014.
Last fall, I made the change from Ms. Shaw to Mrs. Cassady when I got married to Mr. Cassady. Mr. Cassady and I have a fur-baby, a terrier mix named Tucker. We adopted him in May and he has become an excellent addition to the Cassady family. He even helps me with planning lessons and grading papers!
In addition to teaching and being a lifelong learner, I spend the majority of time hanging out with my friends and family. I love all things sports related, especially the Carolina Panthers as well as the Tarheels. My hobbies also include reading, traveling, photography, and baking sweets such as cupcakes and cookies.
I am so excited about this year and look forward to it being a successful one for each of the students in our class.
